The Sián’s most significant innovation is its mild-hybrid system, which is a world-first to use a supercapacitor instead of a traditional lithium-ion battery. This supercapacitor is three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and can store ten times more energy. It is connected to a small electric motor that provides an instant boost of power during gear changes and at low speeds, smoothing out the transmission’s inherent clunkiness and providing an immediate jolt of torque. The system is also incredibly efficient at regenerating energy from braking, with the supercapacitor being fully charged in a matter of seconds.
